Crysis 3 was a pretty good way to end a truly fantastic FPS series. Crytek created a really fantastic sci-fi first-person shooter here and that first game in the series for its time was regarded as one of the best looking games around. By the time we got to this third game in the series, they had pretty much perfected the “Crysis” formula that they started with the first game.

What Is The Story?

I love the story of the Crysis series. Some people say that it is just like Halo and I will admit that there are some similarities to Halo. However, the alien invasion from the first game has gone even further by the time we get to Crysis 3. You once again play as a powerful soldier in a futuristic suit called, Prophet and you are tasked with saving the day.

The Ceph who tried to destroy mankind is still around, but you also have to deal with an organization known as CELL. This is best described as a fascist organization that wants everything their own way. The story is a little short, but if you enjoyed the first two games, you will be happy with what they did. I really think despite the short length they closed things off nicely.

Lock & Load

I will admit that the gameplay as not really seen any major improvements over what Crysis 2 offered. To be fair though, there was not anything that I feel needed changing. They do give us a lot more weapons and there is a very nice mixture of powerful human weapons and alien weapons that you can get your hands on. Of course, your suit plays a big part in the gameplay as you can use it to dish out some heavy-duty damage and also conceal yourself for stealth sections. I really like the way the upgrade system in Crysis 3 works. It allows you to focus on the weapons and abilities that you like best so you can play the game the way you want to.The level design is great, you have huge, pretty much open world areas to explore and play in, but the game is always pushing you forward. This is something I really like and a huge reason as to why I have played through this game three times! It is a joy from start to finish and the first-person shooter controls are nice and tight. Which is a good thing as the enemy AI in this game can be quite relentless.

While I have not tried to get a game going in quite some time. Crysis 3 did have a pretty fun and solid multiplayer mode as well. This featured different match types and the PC version allowed for some pretty large scale and epic battles with your friends.

Hey’ Good Looking!

The first Crysis game was a landmark title in terms of its visuals. People were building super powerful gaming PC’s just to play it! This game really does look fantastic and the different environments and areas you go to all have a lot of great little details to them. It sounds really harsh to say this, but Crysis 3 as good looking as it is. It does not wow you like the first game did. To be fair at the time of release we had other amazing looking games so it was harder to stand out.Still, even with that being said, Crysis 3 is actually the best-looking game of the series. It does make me kind of wish that the folks at EA would release some kind of remaster of this trilogy as I imagine they could make it even look better with the hardware that we have now.

I will say that to get the best out of Crysis, you really need to play the other two games as it is a story-driven experience. For me, it is the best of the trilogy and one of the best first-person shooters of its generation. It is so good that I really do hope that EA has not killed this franchise off as I would love to see a new game or even a compilation of the first three.

• The multiplayer (if you can get a game) is fun and not just tacked on
