Radar navigation, radar plotting and use of ARPA
The rather bright ould guy who invented and markets the excellent Sea-Me radar transponder has just produced a good radar plotting device, which looks better and more useful than t'other stuff I've seen and used. And I've used a few. 2 plotting exercises on a radar simulator by transfer plotting to a radar transfer-plotting sheet (90% on each required to pass). You will plot targets graphically (e.g. Rapid-radar plotting technique) to correctly derive solutions and determine own ship’s position while underway.

We’ll use these to plot lines of position (LOP) on a nautical chart, plotting work sheet, or a simple graph paper to determine the position of the ship. Scope (Target audience) : The course has been designed to meet requirements of STCW section B-1/12 and is based on the guidelines of IMO Model Course 1.07, objectives 1-5.
Course provides training in the basic theory and use of Radar for those who will be in charge of a navigational watch.
Objective : The course covers, the theory necessary for understanding how radar information is obtained and displayed, the limitations and accuracy of information, the recognition of critical targets, the measurement of bearing and distances, and the use of these for fixing the ship's position and maintaining a plot of the movement of other ships as an aid to collision avoidance. Exercises in the application of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea ( COLREG 1972) will make use of the resulting plots.

- Exercises in and near traffic separation schemes
